Prof. Christine Dranzoa led the taskforce that started Muni University and served as its founding Vice Chancellor.

Appointed by the Ministry of Education and Sports to chair the three-person taskforce that kick-started the University, Prof. Dranzoa turned a long-held regional aspiration into a functioning, degree-awarding public university — beginning with one faculty and a pioneer class in 2013.
She was a champion of education for women and girls, and of the Forum for African Women Educationalists (FAWE). Her legacy continues to inspire the University and the West Nile community.
The memorial lecture
Every year the University honours her with the Prof. Christine Dranzoa Memorial Lecture. The 3rd lecture, in 2026, took the theme “Improving the Educational Performance of West Nile” and began with a memorial march through Arua.
In her honour the University has announced a trust fund to support the education of the girl child, awarding its first scholarship in 2026.
