On the wards of Arua Regional Referral Hospital, Muni’s nursing and midwifery students are active members of clinical teams — and a clear picture of how the Faculty of Health Sciences trains practice-ready professionals.

Muni University’s Faculty of Health Sciences puts early clinical exposure, patient-centred care and simulation at the heart of training competent, practice-ready nurses and midwives.

Ms Acirucan Polline, Assistant Lecturer in Midwifery, explains that students are guided to carry out comprehensive patient assessments — vital signs, physical examinations and health histories — and trained in fundamental skills such as giving medication by different routes, wound care and, under close supervision, procedures like catheterisation.

Structured rotations through paediatrics, maternity, surgery and internal medicine expose students to a wide range of patients. They develop individual care plans with the clinical teams, teach patients and families about prevention and treatment, keep accurate nursing notes and medication records, work alongside doctors and pharmacists, and practise strict infection prevention and control.
