Funded by the Max Planck Society and the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, the new unit works with the Max Planck Institute for Astronomy in Heidelberg — advancing research and building long-term scientific capacity in Africa.
Muni University has established the Max Planck – Humboldt Research Unit, funded by the Max Planck Group and the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation. The unit carries out research in collaboration with the Max Planck Institute for Astronomy in Heidelberg, Germany, with two aims: to advance cutting-edge astronomy research and to build long-term scientific capacity in Africa.
The University has recruited Dr. Slah Abdellaoui, who holds a PhD from Masaryk University in Brno, Czech Republic, to the unit as a postdoctoral researcher. He joins the Department of Physics in the Faculty of Science.
Through the Max Planck–Humboldt Research Unit, we are not only advancing cutting-edge astronomy research but also strengthening our community engagement agenda by applying scientific knowledge and innovation to address social and developmental challenges affecting communities in West Nile and beyond.
The collaboration is expected to strengthen joint research, increase high-impact publications, enhance postgraduate training and mentorship, and open staff and researcher exchanges. Vice Chancellor Assoc. Prof. Simon Anguma Katrini described the recruitment as a milestone in the University’s internationalisation and research agenda.
