The Refugee and Host Community Youth Empowerment and Transformation Initiative links skills training, entrepreneurship and financial inclusion to dignified work for refugees and young people in host communities.
Through the Refugee and Host Community Youth Empowerment and Transformation Initiative (RETI), Muni University and its consortium partners equip young people with market-oriented skills, entrepreneurship and financial inclusion, and connect them to work.
Of those now employed, 25,834 are women and 14,441 men; 22,798 are refugees and 17,477 come from host communities. The initiative is coordinated by Assoc. Prof. Clement Okia.
In September 2026 RETI earned Muni University the inaugural Africa Higher Education for Transformation Prize in the Transitions to Employment category. The University’s next step is to institutionalise this “learning to earning” model across its programmes.
